Jimmy has taken "retirement" from Judo but his hard work and dedication to the teaching of Judo means there will always be a place for him at the club and he will continue to be listed as a Poole Judo Centre coach.

Started Judo at the age of 5 at the Blackheath Judo Club in South London and later became the Middlesex junior champion in 1965/66.

On joining the Royal Marines he competed in many competitions, and won the Royal Marines and Royal Navy championship in his weight group for over 10 years during the mid 70's and 80's. Also during this period Jimmy entered many national level competitions and fought representatively against  Holland on 3 occasions as well as Sweden and the USA.

Appointed as the Royal Marines and Royal Navy coach in the 80's, an appointment he held for several years during which the Royal Navy Team won the Inter-services champioinship on 3 occasions.

Whilst serving at RM Poole, Jimmy regularly practiced and helped coach at various Dorset clubs.

In 2008 Jimmy co-founded the Poole Judo Centre and coached as Head coach for 8 years until March 2016.

"There are many good coaches that I owe alot to with regards to my Judo, however Jimmy sticks out as a special one to me, purely because of the simplicity he brought to it, he made Judo fun again for me" - Kit Thorrington, Club Chairman and coach"
